Downey Ranch Beef
Available by the whole beef or in halves
Our cattle are born & bred on the native tallgrass prairies of the KS Flint Hills
|
We are a cow-calf operation, meaning we have a cowherd of mama cows that give birth to calves each year. All our mama cows spend the entire year grazing the grasses nature developed for her Tallgrass prairies. While those grasses used to be found from Indiana to Kansas, North Dakota to Texas, the largest swath of the remaining 2% is found in the Kansas Flint Hills. We are blessed to have our ranch in the heart of this incredible ecosystem.

We raise cattle sustainably, realizing they're part of an ecosystem.

Grazing animals are an integral part of the prairie ecosystem. Without them, soil becomes less healthy, insects decline, and the native flora and fauna decrease. Recognizing that, we strive to have our cattle grazing year round, harvesting plant material, encouraging regrowth, with their nutrient deposition nourishing the soils, the microbes, the insects, etc.
This year's beef animals (available by 1/2's or wholes) are finished grazing standing corn interseeded with grasses, legumes, and root plants that help the animals and soils thrive. With the corn available to the grazing animals, you're assured of the marbling and flavor that we all know and love! Beef is available by the 1/2 carcass or whole, at $2.50/lb hanging weight + processing, which you pay to the locker. Questions? Call or click the button below. Hurry - supplies are limited! |
