At the risk of offending someone, I am going to go ahead and tell you about our 4th of July celebration.  Every year, a core group of friends, neighbors and whoever's unlucky enough to be in town that weekend get dragged out to the fishing pond affectionately known as Lake JoeBeGone.  Since it involves lots of fireworks, some fishing, a few adult beverages and lots of food, it tends to bring out the inner redneck in us all.  Thus, it has been christened, "The Wabaunsee White Trash 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza and Cooter Stew Fest."  The cooter part (a southern colloquial term for turtle) comes from the multiple snapping turtles we've had to remove from the overflow tube in our pond.  Following are photos from this year's event.  Enjoy, and stop by JoeBeGone if you're in town on the 4th!

Lake JoeBeGone makes a nice summer retreat although I wish Joe would take more time to go fishing.  Even the bulls came down for a little bit to the controlled access drinking point on the pond (4th photo from the left).  But after staying for only one neighborly beer, they headed back out.

Anna and Laura Cate show off their bass while Joe gets the hook out of a nice catfish.

We all sure enjoy the fireworks.  The photo with the two boys shows them holding the star of the show, "Hicktown Heaven."  I don't know who brought it, but we thought it was really appropriately named!  Also, note the earplugs in the one boy's ears.
